Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has expressed her deep outrage over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Addressing an event in Pune, Azmi condemned the incident as profoundly alarming and voiced her frustration that such heinous crimes persist despite the establishment of the Justice Verma Committee in 2012, following the Nirbhaya case. “These incidents are profoundly dangerous and it is disheartening to see that such appalling acts have not diminished even after the creation of the Justice Verma Committee,” said Azmi. “Women should not be treated as commodities; we must work to dismantle the deeply ingrained patriarchy in our society.”
Shabana Azmi, a five-time National Award winner, is among the many Bollywood personalities who have expressed their anger over the RG Kar case. Numerous celebrities have taken to social media to show solidarity with the protests, including Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Malaika Arora, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Varma, Swara Bhasker, and Richa Chadha.
