According to the most recent Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, India registered 322 new COVID cases and one death in the previous 24 hours. The total number of reported cases in the country is 3,742. Kerala had the most instances, with 128, followed by Karnataka with 96 and Maharashtra with 35. In the same time period, Delhi recorded 16 new cases.


In India, the mortality toll from the epidemic remained at 4,635. So far, 3,657 persons have recovered from the virus, resulting in a 97.8 percent recovery rate. There are 450 current cases, accounting for 1.2% of the overall caseload.


Earlier on Saturday, a multifold increase in new Covid cases was reported in India over the previous 24 hours, with Kerala accounting for the lion's share of them. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, a total of 423 cases were documented, including 266 from Kerala and 70 from nearby Karnataka. Kerala has recorded two deaths. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country was 3,420.


Meanwhile, amid growing anxiety over the appearance of a new coronavirus variety, former World Health Organisation (WHO) head scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan stated that there is no reason to panic because it is a variant of curiosity rather than concern.
