LAS VEGAS (AP) — For better or worse, a swarm of engaged couples in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve may break the record for the busiest wedding day in the history of the city.
This is because, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the recurring 1-2-3 1-2-3 rhythm makes 12/31/23 recognised as a "specialty date" in the enormous Las Vegas wedding market.
The cherry on top? This momentous occasion coincides with a holiday well-known for blowout festivities.
Melody Willis-Williams, president of Vegas Weddings, which runs many locations, described it as a "double whammy." "These speciality dates are usually incredibly popular whenever they are offered. However, when you combine it with New Year's Eve, it's incredible.
On July 7, 2007, a single-day record of 4,492 weddings in Las Vegas was achieved. This is the number to beat on New Year's Eve. Nov. 11, 2011, saw the second-highest number of speciality weddings ever recorded by the county marriage department, with 3,125 couples exchanging vows.
Since 2018, the Review-Journal stated that between 450 and 550 couples have traditionally chosen to tie the knot in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve.
But not for Vegas Weddings this year. At midnight, the company's several locations—including its brown-brick church in downtown Las Vegas with a crimson canopy and white steeple—are completely booked.
According to Willis-Williams, her organisation alone plans to marry over 120 couples on New Year's Eve. When the clock strikes midnight, five of the couples will exchange vows.
Couples who got married on a Las Vegas speciality date have called them "magic dates" since they are simple to remember, according to Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya.
Goya remarked, "I think the celebration with a group dynamic is really appealing." "It just improves their own experience when everyone is in queue, getting married, and excited about being in love."
